چکیده

Case I, a 25-year-old male (Fig. I), had a left proptosis which had developed slowly during the past 3 years. The right eye was normal, and the visual acuity 6/6. The left eye showed conjunctival chemosis, inward proptosis of 26 mm. (Hertel), and limitation of ocular movements downwards and outwards. The visual acuity was 6/I2. The fundus showed engorgement of the retinal vessels. A hard mass was felt between the eye and the outer lower orbital margin. Skull x rays showed no abnormality of the orbital bones. The mass, which was removed through an anterior orbitotomy, measured 3 X 2 X I cm. It was encapsulated, hard, and adherent to the periorbita of the lower outer orbital wall.

Treatment Challenges with Benign Bone Tumors of the Orbit.

Benign mesenchymal tumors of the craniofacial complex present unique challenges for orbital surgeons because of their potential for orbital compartment syndrome, ocular morbidity, and facial disfigurement and because definitive surgical management may be associated with significant morbidity. While the precise classification of such lesions depends on radiologic as well as histologic evaluation...

Endonasal endoscopic resection of ossifying fibroma involving the ethmoid sinus, orbit and anterior skull base: case report and literature review

Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous tumour that rarely involves the ethmoid sinuses and orbit. It is classified as a benign fibroosseous lesion, a term that is synonymous with a variety of lesions reported in the literature. Recurrence rate with deleterious effects in cases of extramandibular ossifying fibroma is the impetus for open en bloc resection of the tumour. Continuously evolvin...

Massive juvenile ossifying fibroma of maxillary sinus with orbital involvement.

A 14-year-old black girl had painless, progressive proptosis and upward displacement of the left eye for approximately six months. Computed tomography showed a massive tumour involving the maxillary sinus with extension into the sphenoid sinus, ethmoid sinus, and orbit. The mass was excised surgically and proved histopathologically to be a juvenile ossifying fibroma. The clinical and histopatho...

An aggressive psammomatoid ossifying fibroma of the sinonasal tract: report of a case.

Aggressive psammomatoid ossifying fibromas (APOFs) represent a subgroup of related fibro-osseous lesions that appears to be unique to the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and orbit. These rare lesions are characterized by distinctive histomorphologic features and a tendency to affect younger patients. Histologically they are benign, but clinically they are locally aggressive. We report the case...

Recurrent Psammomatoid Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma with Aneurysmal Bone Cyst: An Unusual Case Presentation

Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a rare, benign, locally aggressive entity of the extragnathic craniofacial bones with a high tendency towards recurrence. Two distinctive microscopic patterns of juvenile ossifying fibroma have been described: a trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma (TrJOF) and a psammomatoid juvenile ossifying fibroma (PJOF). Psammomatoid variant is predominantly a craniofac...

Odontogenic Fibroma of the Maxilla - An Atypical Presentation

Odontogenic fibroma (OF) is considered an unusual, benign mesenchymal neoplasm and one of the most little-understood lesions amongst all odontogenic neoplasms. The incidence rate of the tumor is from 0% to 5.5%. WHO classified them into intraosseous or central and extraosseous or peripheral variants. It chiefly consists of fibroblastic tissue with an inconsistent amount of inactive appearing od...
